Saturday (15/11) a professional seminar was held by the academic and professional division of the Chemical Engineering Study Program Student Association (HMPTSK), Parahyangan Catholic University (Unpar) 2016/2017. This year’s seminar was titled “The role of the Bachelor of Chemical Engineering and Tips of Dealing with Work Competition in the Process Industry in the Era of the ASEAN Economic Community (MEA/AEC)”’this event was joined by Chemical Engineering students of Unpar from multiple batches.
There were two sessions at this seminar. The first session was presented by Dr. Ir. Melia Laniwati Gunawan, M.Sc., the Head of theFood Technology Study Program at ITB. In this session Ms. Melia gave an overview of Chemical Engineering including its related occupations/professions. In addition, the relevance of chemical engineering learning to professional fields was presented.
The second session was a panel discussion with Ir. Yos Tri Atmodjo, M.M., a senior lecturer in Chemical Engineering Unpar with acknowledged industrial experience in Industry. There were 3 speakers who were present during this session. Namely: Dr. Andreas Widodo, Research and Technology Development in PT Rekayasa Industri, Ms Elsa Sutedja, Senior Risk Engineer in DNV GL-Oil and Gas,, and Mr. Eka Linggadjaja, Factory Manager at PT. Biotech Surindo, Cirebon.
The three speakers talked and shared numerous experiences with the seminar participants concerning occupation, fields to master as well as the applications of Chemical Engineering students in their works. In addition, practical tips useful to prepare for MEA that is going to be faced by seminar participants when they graduate later were presented. The high level of enthusiasm of the participants was displayed in numerous questions and discussions happened during the session.
Hopefully this seminar can bring new insights, in addition to how the science learnt on campus relates to the professional world, as well as help seminar participants prepare themselves for facing work related competition when they graduate later.
