Dino Patti Djalal, the former Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Republic of Indonesia’s Ambassador to the United States of America, formally opened Parahyangan Catholic University Chapter of the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) on Tuesday (23/2) – FPCI is an international non-profit organization that operates within the area of international relations. This organization is open for students, lecturers, think-tanks, businessmen, journalists and even members of diplomatic corps.
In addition to formally opening the UNPAR chapter of FPCI, he also became a speaker in a visiting lecture entitled:”Six Fundamental Changes to the world of Diplomacy in the 21st Century: its impacts on Indonesia’s Foreign Policy”
In his talk, Dino stated how nationalism is no longer the mainstream thinking of the 21st century, as now the phenomena of geo-politics and globalization have become the agenda for foreign policy.
“We used to talk about nationalism, but if nationalism is conflicts with internationalism, Indonesia will be hard-pressed.” Dino added.
The main material discussed was related to changes that have “forced” Indonesia to exploit the surge of opportunity in the globalization era through the spirit of internationalism.
As one of the founding-fathers of FPCI, Dino sees that in terms of strategic environment, national assets, diplomatic agenda, and room to maneuver, Indonesia will keep on developing.
Undeniably, Indonesia has undergone significant changes in terms of geostrategic, politics, and even economics. This is proven by the fact that Indonesia as the member of G-20 has become a regional force as well as an international player. Therefore, Indonesia has to get use to becoming the Asian Giant, politically and economically.
