In the last few years, the Chemical Engineering Study Program has been cooperating with numerous chemical companies through its alumni for the purpose of developing science and teaching. One of the industries that has cooperated routinely with the Chemical Engineering Study Program is PT. Lautan Luas, Tbk. This company conducts annual recruitment for graduates and gives opportunity for students complete do their final assignment in the form of work practice.
Starting from the first semester of the 2015/2016 academic year, the cooperation between the Chemical Engineering Study Program and PT. Lautan Luas, Tbk. is enhanced by giving electives and guest lectures. There is one elective; self-utilization in the 5th semester and two guest lectures in Chemical Factory Design and Industrial Waste Management academic courses. Those lectures given by practitioners are beneficial for improving insights and knowledge of Chemical Engineering Study Program’s students.
The elective self-utilization is aimed at providing students with a variety of soft skills, both personal, intrapersonal and interpersonal skill. It is hoped that with the integration of soft skill development, the graduates will be more prepared to face the dynamic global employment world. The course is about assertive communication, conflict and time management, building cooperation, leadership, and work professionalism. This course will be regularly available every odd semester. One of the lecturers of the course is an alumnus of the Chemical Engineering Study Program of 1996, Stefanus Janto Tjiamas.
The cooperation between the Chemical Engineering Study Program and PT. Lautan Luas, Tbk. was formalized through the MOU signed by Dr. Thedy Yogasara as the Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Technology and Joshua C. Asali as the Managing Director of PT. Lautan Luas, Tbk. With this cooperation, the Chemical Engineering Study Program can continue to grow and give added value to its graduates.
