The Faculty of Law of Parahyangan Catholic University (FH UNPAR) grieves. A role model and an outstanding lecturer, Professor Dr. Bernard Arief Sidharta, S.H., passed away on Tuesday (24/11) at 06.00 p.m.
At the age of 77, Professor Dr. Bernard Arief Sidharta, S.H., was still the trusted choice as a lecturer for the Introduction to Law Science, Logic and Law Philosophy. As one of the few Professors of Law in Indonesia, he had contributed his thoughts in the form of books, among others: “A Reflection on the Structure of Law Science; Indonesian Law Science; The Efforts to Develop a Systematic Law Science that is Responsive to Society’s Change; Meuwissen on Law Enforcement, Law Science, Law Theories and Law Philosophy; and an introductory book to law science: “An Initial Introduction to the Scope of Law Science” that he co-wrote with Mochtar Kusumaatmaja.
Professor Dr. Bernard Arief Sidharta’s role in the academic field of Law science is beyond any doubt. During his life he was once an expert of law for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) at Budi Gunawan’s pre-trial and he was also an expert in theoretical Law study and Pancasila-based Philosophy of Law. Those studies had attracted the attention of law students and law Philosophers, hence his numerous appearances as a resource person in multiple events.
Profound knowledge and mastery of science did not make Professor. Dr. Bernard Arief Sidharta, S.H., arrogant. He was interested in sharing his knowledge and often visited young lecturers’ offices to discuss a variety of things. The discussions were always relaxed, light but still enthusiastic.
The modest figure could always be counted on as a role model. He was able to encourage young lecturers to keep on developing the law science and never enforce or “drive home” their ideas or points of view.
For your information, the deceased will be at the YDS ‘Priangan” funeral home room D-E at Nana-rohana street number 37 Bandung. The Mass and the closing casket ceremony will be held on Wednesday (25/11) at 07.00 PM Indonesian Western Time (WIB) at the YDS ‘Priangan” funeral home. The Requiem Mass (that will be lead by Mgr. Antonius Bunyamin) will commence on Thursday (26/11) at 08.00 AM at the lobby of Parahyangan Catholic University, followed by final tribute by the big family of Parahyangan Catholic University.
