I exist but am worthless
Worthless then discarded
Abandoned
Suddenly I caused distress
Garbage
Whose fault is it?
A part of a poem about garbage, an issue closely related to human behavior to the environment; hence the issue of the environment has once again been brought up at Parahyangan Catholic University.
Gerakan Kampus Bersih/the Clean Campus Movement (GKB) is one of the efforts initiated by the security, sanitation and order unit which serves under the auspices of Biro Sarana dan Prasarana/the Bureau of facility and infrastructure (K3-BSP).
Initially, GKB was a Friday Cleaning Program routinely held by members of the security at UNPAR. Mr. Dadan A. Setiawan, as UNPAR’s head of security as well as the initiator of the program admitted that the GKB is fully supported by the Vice Rector of Organization and Resources, Dr. Orpha Jane.
Now, the routinely conducted movement that takes place every Friday from 07.30 to 10.00, involves 35 personnel from the K3 unit. In the future the K3 unit will cooperate with lecturers and Lembaga Kepresidenan Mahasiswa/ The Students Presidency (LKM) to work hand in hand in building awareness of environmental cleanliness.
Mr. Adam Suheri, as the Head of BSP Administrative section also responded that environmental cleanliness has to involve the society because littering is a result of UNPAR’s society namely students, lecturers, employees and sanitary service employee.
Currently, GKB is still in the garbage collecting phase. In the future, UNPAR will conduct a waste sorting and management process in order to gain economical benefit. According to Mr. Suheri, the waste management process for economical benefit cannot be darried out at the moment due to the limitation of space, human resources and funding. But it is completely feasible that UNPAR will not only be clean environmentally but clean behaviorally, still UNPAR can get economical benefits from the existing waste management system.
