Looking at the international developments from several years back, especially in relation to strategic issues, it is deemed necessary to share and discuss these strategic issues among academics and stakeholders, especially strategic industries. To meet these needs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, in particular the US Directorate I, the Directorate General of America and Europe in cooperation with the Parahyangan Center for International Studies (PACIS), the International Relations Program, Parahyangan Catholic University (HI Unpar) held a Discussion of Indonesian Government Synergy – HI Unpar Academicians – Strategic Industry entitled “Opportunities and Challenges of Indonesia-United States Strategic Cooperation in Defense”. The event was held on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Building, Unpar.
The resource person representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia’s Directorate of the United States, namely the Head of Sub Directorate of America I Pangeran Ibrani Situmorang and a Functional Diplomat from the US Sub Directorate I, Jaki Nurhasya. Meanwhile, the speakers who represented academics HI Unpar was Idil Syawfi as a lecturer who handles the of Strategic Studies course. Also present as a moderator was Putu Agung Nara Indra Prima Satya who is also a lecturer in HI Unpar.
Some of the issues discussed include the direction of the development of US policy on strategic issues that has created several challenges as well as opportunities for the political, economic and defense fields, globally, regionally and domestically. The types of potential that arise from the direction of the development of the strategic issues encourage the need for synergy between RI government, academics and strategic industries in discussing and sharing the issue. Hopefully, the result of discussion from various perspectives can produce a foreign policy that can protect the national interest comprehensively and effectively.
In addition to attending lecturers from Prodi HI Unpar, the event was attended by representatives from government agencies such as the Ministry of Defense, Indonesian National Armed forces/TNI Headquarters, European Directorate III of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, the Directorate of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of RI, the Head of P3K2 Amerop BPPK Kemlu RI, and representatives from strategic industries managed by state and private sector such as PT. Dirgantara Indonesia, PT. Pindad, PT. PAL Indonesia, PT. SSE Defense Indonesia, and PT. Regio Aviasi Industri.
