Developing Potentials For The Sake Of Achievement

Achievement is a crucial goal to reach by every individual, wherever he/she is. Why should this be so? Through achievement, individuals can motivate themselves to gain something more than previously achieved, or even other achievements. Achievements can also be seen as the work of leading individuals.

Due to the importance of achievement for every individual, it is important for high-quality individuals to gain support from related institutions and the government, so that they can continually grow and attain high achievements. For an institution, the achievements of individuals within its organization will serve as a sign that it possesses high-quality individuals. Specifically, for an educational institution, the large number of achievements by its students at local, national and international levels will showcase its quality.

Parahyangan Catholic University (Unpar) strives to encourage and support its students to attain high achievements in various fields, both academically and non-academically. Unpar has always provided opportunities and has encouraged its students to develop themselves out of the context of lecturing activities, and in accordance to their respective interests, aptitudes, and competence. This is for the sake of having its students attain their highest level of quality after finishing their studies.

Numerous achievements have been reached by Unpar students in various fields. Early this August, The Unit Kegiatan Mahasiswa/Student Activity Unit (UKM) of the Parahyangan English Debating Society (PEDS), through its representatives Revian Wirabuana won the “1st best speaker” and Jeanne Sanjaya as “the 9th Best Speaker” in the National University Debating Championship (NUDC) 2016, an event held by the Directorate General of Learning and Student affairs, Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti). Both will be representing Indonesia in the world University Debating Contest 2016 that will be held this December in The Hague, The Netherlands.

Previously, in the 9th International Humanitarian Law National Debate Competition held by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Jeanne along with Moudy Alfina and Ancilla Pramudita also won the first prize and has the right to represent Indonesia at the Asia-Pacific level.

During the world’s most prestigious sporting event, the 2016 RIO Olympics, Yessy Venisia Yosaputra, an Unpar Accounting student who is also a national swimming athlete, took part in the 200m back-stroke. It was Yessy who became the center of attention after marching in the front row of Indonesian Athletes wearing a traditional Lampung outfit. Her unique appearance made her look different as if she was a princess. Her appearance was appreciated by netizens and various international media.

Two Unpar students also became high-fliers in the Abang None Jakarta Barat pageant. Ryzky Ramanda Renaldi Hawadi won the Favorite Abang Jakarta Barat award as well as becoming the first runner-up of Abang Jakarta Barat, while Ghinaa Nabila was chosen as the second representative of None Jakarta Barat and represented Jakarta Barat/West Jakarta in the 2016 Abang-None Jakarta pageant.

In the academic field, 6 students represented the International Relations Study Program (HI) of Unpar in Pertemuan Sela Nasional Mahasiswa Hubungan Internasional se-Indonesia (PSNMHII) XXVIII. They returned with honor by coming third in the video competition, as well as making top 10 best paper presentation. HI Unpar will send its representatives to the Pertemuan Nasional Mahasiswa Hubungan Internasional se-Indonesia / the National Convention of International Relations Student of Indonesia (PNMHII) 28 on November 8-12, 2016 at Budi Luhur University.

At another event, students of the Civil Engineering Study Program of Unpar also attained prideful achievement. Ken Pradipta, Ardi Susanto, and Stanley Hendrawan came first in the Civil National Expo 2016 at Tarumanegara University.

At the same event, Calvin Wimordi, Yohan Adimas Wibisono as well as Angelia Dharmandy also won the third runner up prize.

Students’ achievements should always be supported and developed so that students are not only able to absorb the knowledge within a class, but also able to apply them in the numerous competitions and contests they join in both academic and non-academic activities.
